About us

Who we are.

New Name Counseling and Teaching Center was formed for the purpose of serving the community by providing Discipleship Counseling and Teaching. The back bone of what we do is found in our mission statement which is, To assist people in the healing and growing of their concept of God and their concept of themselves, in order to experience a deeper relationship with God and others. When this healing and growing happens, many issues are resolved, and new life is experienced.

We offer our services to the general public, and while we are an organization that embraces the teachings of Jesus, and spiritual solutions to life, we are not affiliated with one particular church or denomination.

The staff at New Name is made up of real people like yourself who have experienced real life. Our stories are just like yours, they are filled with mistakes, hurts, love, and redemption. All of us have experienced the type of counseling that we offer you, so we are understanding and non-judgmental no matter what your circumstances are. We lead you, and walk with you, as you journey through the counseling process, trusting that God is the agent of change and not the counselor. Because of our unique approach, New Name trains it’s own staff or hires staff with similar training. Therefore, New Name does not look to secular standards to necessarily qualify a person for staff role.

Why the name “New Name”?

It has been said that it is impossible to live beyond what you believe about God and what you believe about yourself. Over the course of a lifetime through painful and confusing things that have happened to us we begin to label God and ourselves with negative names, at least on an emotional level. For example, God is distant, God is angry, etc. or, I am worthless, I’m a bad person, I’m defective, etc. In some cases a person’s past leads them to a place where their beliefs about God and themselves seem to be more positive on the surface, but they find themselves in a state of independence that can be just as destructive. There beliefs may sound like, I’m self-sufficient, I don’t need anyone, I can do it on my own. Over time these attitudes of independence will also distort their view of God and affect their relationship with Him and others in a negative way.

We may never say these things verbally, but sometimes we feel them to be true. These emotional beliefs limit our lives and relationships as they create a ceiling that we continually slam our heads against as we desire to experience real life. Here at New Name we assist people in discovering and recognizing some of these distorted names that they have about God and themselves and then experience the “New Names”, the truth about God and themselves. As this happens life begins to change as beliefs begin to change. Thoughts, emotions, and actions are transformed. This process does not happen over night and there is more to the process than this, but this is a vital piece of what we do.

As well as individual and group Discipleship Counseling, Teaching is a very important part of what we do at New Name. We teach small groups here at the center, as well as hold several larger conferences a year at different locations in the community. Check out our conference page on this site to learn more.
